Co Loa village was once famous in history books because it was twice the capital of the country. The first time was the capital of Au Lac under the reign of Thuc An Duong Vuong (257 BC), with the towering Loa citadel, with an effective magic crossbow. The second time was under Ngo (Ngo Quyen and his successors, from 939 to 965). Co Loa is also known to the whole country for its archaeological discoveries during the past few decades, finding warehouses of bronze arrows, bronze plowshares, bronze drums and many other artifacts, proving that the village was formed from the time of ancient times. build the kingdom of the Hung Kings.

At the beginning of the 19^th century, Co Loa was a village, also a large commune of Co Loa canton, Dong Ngan district, Tu Son district, Kinh Bac town (Bac Ninh province now). In 1926 there were 2,698 people, living in 12 hamlets in three circles of the ancient citadel, in a very large geographical area.

Today, Co Loa has become a developing commune. Historical and cultural relics have been renovated and upgraded by the government, turning this place into a community-based tourist and tradition-educated destination.

Co Loa has Hoang Giang river (also known as Thiep river), which is a tributary of Ngu Huyen Khe river flowing through; There is National Highway No. 3 connecting Hanoi and Thai Nguyen, so it is very convenient to reach by road.

Ancient Co Loa had rice farming agriculture in low-lying fields combined with growing crops on the high lands. Crafts include making vermicelli and blacksmithing. The village has Sa market, famous for being one of the big markets in Kinh Bac region.
